A life coach is trained to be your partner in achieving your dreams and/or in resolving situations that are unsatisfactory.
Even though most of us are successful in one or in several areas of our lives, we have dreams that we have not fulfilled or situations that continually annoy us / appear insoluble. It is often NOT because we don’t know how to move these areas forward. . We all know “how to” loose weight, become more assertive, get fit, have a better career, have more money, be more relaxed, stop an abusive relationship, find the ideal partner etc. etc.
Knowing “how to” is not enough. There are various reasons why we do not achieve our dreams, or resolve areas of our lives that are not working, or why we continue to have that gnawing feeling of a lack of fulfilment.
That is where life-coaching really helps. The coach helps you bring a different focus to these areas that are not working.
The coach is trained to help you:
1.Clarify your dreams / goals,
2. Prioritise them,
3. Decide on the next best step(s)/action(s) that you need to take,
4. Train you to be accountable for fulfilling on these actions.
5. Learn to identify the self-limiting beliefs or behaviours that stop your progress.
6. Eliminate/modify these self-limiting patterns.
7. Make your dream become a reality
By following this process for several months, you get to become competent at achieving short term goals in key areas of your life where you have been stuck. By identifying these and successfully carrying them out, you learn how to become a winner in the areas of your life that are not working. Bit by bit the bigger goal(s) begin to become realities. You become clearer on your values in life. You stop focusing on trivia and negativity. You take control of events and stop letting events control you!
Often in life we are swamped by the magnitude of the big picture. Coaching helps you be true to the Chinese proverb that: “The only way to eat an elephant is a bite at a time”. By persistently, taking bite-size chunks of the big issues, progress results. By seeing and changing limiting beliefs and behaviours, your view of your competence is transformed! Transformation is different from change. You get to see yourself in a completely different way, and take on the visions, values, beliefs and competencies of the new you. This is distinct from changing or fixing yourself, which is grindingly slow, has minor impact and is short lived.
